Ed’s Take–Feb. 23, 2011
The 2011 NFL Draft is just two months away. Regardless of whether the labor agreement is worked out by then, the Draft is scheduled for April 28-30.
With the scouting combine getting underway in Indianapolis this week, the Denver Broncos took care of a major offseason priority yesterday by re-signing free-agent-to-be Champ Bailey. This move also allows the team to sharpen its focus on its draft preparation with the No. 1 cornerback spot solidified.
So, what should the Broncos do with that No. 2 overall pick? If they identify a guy with at that spot who they feel will be an impact player, who will change their team, then I think they have to take him.
If, on the other hand, they feel like the best guy at that spot is no better than the guys they already have on their team, and they don’t see any future potential of him being better than what they have, they should trade the pick and acquire more players with it. They should try to get as many athletic guys as they can on the team and coach them up in the mold of the player they’re looking for.
Broncos fans, what would you do with that No. 2 overall selection?
I think with only 6 picks right now the Broncos should trade down and gain additional picks. McHoody gave away far to many picks in his short two year stay. We, Broncos, need more defensive help in the front 7 area.

I as many other Broncos fans are estatic that Champ was resigned, but I think we need to get Peterson who would come in and be and immediate impact player, also need to pick up another vetern safety in free agency. Fairley was impressive but one year of great stats does a DT make one. Bowers is the only other choice at the #2 spot !!!!

Fairly is the next Albert Haynesworth. He is lazy. If you watch tape he gives up easy on any play that isn’t right to him.

I would trade the pic and look for athletic BIG D linemen that can stop the run.

I would go with either Da’Quan Bowers if he doesn’t get picked first. Or Nick Fairley for the 2nd pick, then in the second round try for Raheem Moore, and maybe a tight end or linebacker.

Hey Ed. I think one of three players will be a Bronco. Marcell Dareus, who is my favorite option, Nick Fairley, and Da’Quan Bowers. With Ayers and Dumervil at the starting ends it makes sense to target defensive tackle as the number 1 priority on defense. I think Dareus will be better than Fairley. However, most mock drafts place Fairley ahead of him. So if I was running the show, I try trading down a couple of spots in the 1st. Get an additional pick and still be able to draft Dareus somewhere in the top 10. That is the ideal scenario

If Fairley is available a vote for him, if he’s taken I vote for Peterson. I also vote we try to get an additional round 2 pick for Orton and get a LB and S with our two current picks (unless we get Peterson, then we need a DT with our second round pick). If we could get an additional pick in round 2, grab another DT.

I’d take Nick Fairley! The defense needs help and the defensive line is where they need to start. By-the-way, nice post, Eddie.
